Squadron celebrates successful year

On Friday 14th December, Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron held their annual awards evening in front of parents and guests.

The beginning of the night was entire run by the cadets, with a video review of the year, a continuity drill demonstration, and first aid scenario.

There were also presentations on Cadet Flight Sergeant Tiffany Cotton’s flight in an RAF fast jet this year, Duke of Edinburgh’s award expedition, and a presentations from the new cadets on the Squadron about their experiences, and what they have achieved so far.

After a break, the night moved onto the awards presentations, with Squadron President & Sandy Deputy Mayor, Councillor Colin Osbourne MBE, and Sandy Mayor Councillor Susan Sutton presenting the awards.

The awards this year were presented to the following cadets:

The Buccaneer Trophy (Best new cadet) - Cadet Prubhpreet Dhillon (14)

The Citizenship Award - Cadet Corporal Evelyn Harris (15)

Modelling Trophy (Model building) - Cadet Elliot Hall (16)

Drill Cup – Cadet Sergeant Laura Dorrell (16)

The Sports Cup – Cadet Corporal Lauren Barton (15)

The Education Award – Cadet Sergeant William Phoenix (16)

Media & Communications Trophy – Cadet Corporal William Clubb (16)

Certificates of Commendation – Cadet Callan Whitbread (15), Cadet Marek Subocz-Schram (14), Cadet

Matthew Randall (17), Cadet Corporal Gursimar Dhillon (16), and the SNCO Team.

Squadron commanding officer, Flight Lieutenant Mark Robinson RAF VR(T) commented, “This year has been incredibly difficult selecting cadets for awards. All the cadets should be very proud of how hard they have worked this year, such as their success at this year’s drill and wing field weekend”.

The night ended with the Mayor giving praise to the cadet’s achievements throughout the year, and thanked the cadets for their support to the town throughout the year.
