Wing Field Weekend

On Sunday 30th June, cadets and staff from 22 (Sandy) Squadron returned from the annual Wing Field Weekend competition.

The weekend, held at RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire, brings together all 29 Squadrons in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire to compete in a number of leadership and teamwork exercises, as well as drill, aircraft recognition, ensemble, aero modelling and the media & photographic competition.

The Squadron this year achieved a well-earned 7th place in the drill competition, led by Flight Sergeant Laura Dorrell, as well as achieving 7th in the ensemble competition and 5th in both the Bletchley Park and First Aid.

For Sandy Squadron, there was also continued success in the Wing Media & Photographic competition, with Cadet Corporal William Clubb winning the Media Competition Cadet entry, and Civilian Instructor Jeffrey Henshaw wining the Staff Photographic individual category.

In the Aero modelling competition, Cadet Foster won the Class 2 Scratch Built categories, retaining the trophy for Sandy Squadron for the second year running.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Laura Dorrell, commented, “It’s great to have come away from the weekend achieving so much, especially with a rather young team.  The amount of time and effort put in for the weekend was definitely worth it”.
