The Mayor’s Charity Dinner – “Food for thought”.                                        9 Apr 08

Air Cadets from 22 (Sandy) Squadron undertook duties for the Mayor’s Charity Dinner which was held on 9th April at the China Express in the Town.

For the Cadets it was more poignant than usual, as the Mayor’s Charity Fund from the evening was to be divided between the Air Cadets and the Army Cadet detachment. Unusually, the Staff sat down to eat at the function instead of being on duty themselves. Cadets assisted with the raffle and £1000 was raised from the event.

VIP guests from the Air Cadets were Air Cdr Peter Ayee CBE DL RAF Ret’d and Mrs Ayee and Wg Cdr Anthony Smith DFC AFC, the Squadron President, and Mrs Smith. Invited guests also included serving and former Town Mayor’s, local dignitaries, Town Council representatives and members of Sandy Chamber of Trade.

Air Cdr Peter Ayee remarked “how nice it was to see the Cadets again, and he hoped to visit the Squadron later in the year again”. Officer Commanding 22 (Sandy) Squadron Flt. Lt. Margaret Bell thanked the Mayor for his support on the evening and said “how important it was for the Cadet Forces to be supported by the Town and thanked everyone for attending”.

Grateful thanks are extended to the Mayor, Cllr Colin Osborne MBE and the Mayoress, Mrs Diane Osborne and all who supported on the evening, it was much appreciated.
