As a Cadet

Joining Requirements: Cadets Must be at least 13 before joining the Air Training Corps. The Air Training Corps is fully supportive of equal opportunities. When you join you will spend your first night being introduced to the system. It is essential you bring at least one Parent/Guardian with you as there is paperwork to be filled in, and your Parents/Guardian need to know what you are intending to do also, so it keeps them fully informed. Your training will be as fun and relaxed as possible. You'll be issued with a free uniform (on a signed loan basis) at the end of your probationary period, when you become a Basic Cadet. The first four weeks are free and then the cost is £1 per week thereafter. The Squadron is open all year round, including Easter and Summer Holidays, apart from Christmas when there is a two week break. Potential cadets and their parents are always welcome to visit the Squadron. The squadron is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 7:15pm till 9:30 pm. If in doubt, please contact us in advance. Click here to find out more about joining the ATC Click on the link to find out how to contact us about joining. Click to go to enrolment page |

Uniformed staff include the Officer Commanding and other Commissioned Officers are in the Royal Air Force, Volunteer Reserve (Training branch). Uniformed Non-commissioned Officers (SNCO's) are attached to the Air Training Corps. Civilian Instructors (CIs) carry out the training, supervisory and administration functions of the Squadron with the uniformed staff. Most have real-world specialisations but they are all people willing to volunteer a few hours each week to help the smooth running of the Squadron. As with potential cadets, potential CIs will be interviewed by the Commanding Officer, there will be Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check as you will be working with young people, and various RAF checks. It isn't as bad as it sounds…but it does some mean form-filling. If you wish to join the Civilian Committee you will be most welcome. An interview with the Civilian Committee Chairman and the Commanding Officer will be the first step. The Committee runs the money side of the Squadron and assists the Squadron Commander when necessary. It also raises funds, and the Committee and the Squadron Staff work side by side for the benefit of the Cadets and the whole Squadron. They usually meet once every 5 weeks.
