Air Cadets and Staff from 22 (Sandy) Squadron spent an evening Training at the East Essex Ambulance Training Department recently.
The evening commenced with identifying the body parts and their functions, followed by major bleeding from the arteries and spinal injuries. The Cadets were taught how to put a neck brace on and place a patient on a body board to save neck and spinal injuries. They also used the Kendrick Extrication device for spinal injuries, which is used for car accident patients in the upright position, and they were taught how to lift from the sitting and laying position.
Half the Squadron have already passed the Young Lifesaver Plus Award, and training at the Squadron is ongoing by F/S Paul Redman the Squadron’s First Aid Instructor.
Grateful thanks to Superintendent Fred Revell for his continuing support in the teaching of these valuable lessons.
